              STRESS Part 3

In English, we do not pronounce each syllable with the same force. In one word, we pronounce one syllable very loudly and all the other syllables very quietly.

  e.g: transportable, fortunate, similarity, telegraphy

All words ending in:

          '-able', '-ate', '-ity' and '-y'.

STRESS FALLS ON THE THIRD SYLLABLE COUNTING FROM THE LAST ONE.

e.g. trans-por-ta-ble. So, '-por' is the third syllable counting from the last one,'-ble'

'-able'   '-ate'   '-ity'   '-y'

transportable   fortunate   similarity telegraphy
adaptable   illiterate   creativity telepathy
adoptable   punctuate   promiscuity photography
perishable   elaborate   security sympathy
perceivable   accurate   antiquity energy
transferable   ultimate   university apathy
