1.    Every year, in the summer, millions of tourists visit California. Sacramento is its capital. Las Vegas, one of the largest cities in the world, is a major tourist center known for its casinos.

2.     In Switzerland, the people speak German, Italian and French. The Swiss are famous for their banks throughout the world.

     3.   The Dinar is used in Algeria while the Euro is used in Europe. The latter is a             hard currency whereas the former is not.

      4.  The Golden Gate Bridge, in San Francisco, was completed in 1937. This
           bridge has enough steel to wrap around the World three times.

     5.  The Pharaohs built the Pyramids many centuries ago. The Cheops’ Pyramid
          is one of The Seven Wonders. Many tourists visit it every year. 

     6.  Bill Gates is a very important American businessman. He is the richest man
         not only in the United States but also in the world. This wealthy American
         founded the famous Microsoft industry.

     7. The Empire State Building, in New York City, has 102 floors. It took the
        Americans  four hundred and ten  days to build it ; that was in 1931.

     8. Mexico’s cities are modern but have traditional Indian Spanish influences. On
         Sundays, parks are a popular place for family’s outings. Mexico City, the
         capital,  suffers from pollution.

     9. Rose Fernandez, Professor in biology, will be our guest. She will give a
        conference about her new book, “The Limits of Biology” on January 18, 2002,
        at the Plaza Hotel.

   10. The Algerian novelist, Kateb Yacine wrote the book, “Nedjama”. Literary artists
        consider his works as the cornerstone of Algerian literature. He even wrote
        plays; for instance,  “Le Cercle des Représailles” collection.
