PAST TENSES

E* Past Simple       was / were   + Past Participle

 1-  Bread was baked here yesterday.

 4- “ My neighbours were not kidnapped by Martians" they said.

 5- The quiz competition was won by Asma five years ago.

 6-The telephone was invented in 1876.

 7- The Algerian Revolution was started in 1954.

 8- A policeman was injured by rioters in London last Monday.

 9- Larbi Ben M’Hidi, a national hero, was arrested by the French colonists on February 23rd, 1957.

10-The famous book, El-Mouqadima, was written in 1372.

F* Past Perfect       had + been + Past Participle

 1- Bread had been baked here.

 2- The computer had been repaired only once last year.

 3- The German football team had been defeated by the Algerian football team in 1982.

 4- Their medals had been offered  to Algeria.

 5-  Opportunities had been given to people with initiative.

G* Past Continuous     was / were + being + Past Participle

 1- Bread was being baked here.

2- A cake was being made when I arrived.

 3- Her animals were not being fed when the telephone rang.

 4- I did not realize that our conversation was being recorded.

 5- The old bus stop was being destroyed when the accident happened.

 6- We did not hear that we were being followed by a stranger.

 7- Prizes were being awarded by the Headmaster  to the students

 8- The play, Romeo and Juliet was being played when it started raining.

 9- A ring-road was being built round the city at the time.

             H*  Past Tenses
